During this week I was lucky to have a one-night getaway with my mum in Sydney CBD. We stayed at The Great Southern Hotel which was the ideal location but a little pricey. The main reason for this night away was because we bought tickets to see Charlie and The Chocolate Factory at The Capitol Theatre.
We arrived by train into the city and headed straight to our hotel on George St and checked in. We then made our way up George St, looking at the shops and then walked across Hyde Park to the Australian Museum. I absolutely love this Museum as it is a smaller version of the Natural History Museum in London and just has so much to see and interact with. After spending the afternoon here, we slowly walked back to our hotel, stopping at China Town on the way back and grabbing Chinese food for dinner.
After waking up, we walked into Surry Hills and ate breakfast at an amazing vegan café called Shift Eatery. We then had a look at a few more shops and went back to the hotel to check out. Just across the street from where we were staying was the famous Paddy’s Markets, so of course, we went for a wander through. I bought a pair of sunnies for $10 and a beautiful green Turkish towel for $25. These markets are great for tourists because of the variety of Australian souvenirs at extremely cheap prices. Above the markets was a massive outlet shopping centre which I actually didn’t know about, so we had a look at the shops there and ate a light lunch.
At 12 pm we walked over to the Capital Theatre and waited with everyone else for the doors to open. We were the first to walk in which was awesome and our seats for right in the middle, four aisles back. The show was incredible and went for about 3 hours. Afterwards, we made our way back to Central to get the train home.
